I had the a great time visiting the Naches Sunshine Lions Club with my wife Tammy last night.

This is a all women's club,  with 18 members who believe in service to their community and neighbors. During the meeting the President ask each member to speak on how each member had provided a service to others since the last meeting... there were some amazing comments.
This group of ladies provides the following service's to Naches; sight and hearing services at the school, Sportsman Day dime toss, Turkey bingo which raises money for projects, but also gets a lot of turkeys and chickens out to families.
I also has the opportunity to sample some amazing lemon bars and cookies after the meeting was over!
 Keep up the good work!

Touchet Gardena Lions... where in the heck is their club house? Or a least that was what I was thinking after my third loop around their town.

I finally went to my old standby and googled directions. This club has a very nice clubhouse that belongs to  the school district,  but is used by the community for different functions.
I was warmly greeted by different Lions as they came in and was introduced to others.
After a little social time, they broke for a homemade dinner and dessert,  more about this later.
I was given the floor to speak with the members and share what was going on with Lions of the District and Lions Club International, we had a great question and answer time.
This club is made up of men Lions (36 members)who actively support their community, school scholarships, little league, homecoming and service when called upon.
After I ask them to come to my Spring Conference, they purchased a $100 dollars of raffle tickets to support the ongoing Childhood  Cancer Research Project.
Back to the dinner... as the meeting was getting ready to end, someone ask about the auction. This club auctions off any leftover food or dessert to their members to help put a little money in their coffers, and so nothing goes to waste.
As a District Governor, I'm humbled to meet so many awesome Lions and thank them for giving me the opportunity to be of service.

Visited the Benton City Lions Club yesterday evening with my wife Tammy, Zone Chair Sam Clayton and his wife Karen.

This club was founded in 1971 and currently has 21 members. I was told they are involved with many community projects... Community Easter Egg show, 4th of July fireworks,  carshow, Christmas party with the American Legion,  just to name a few. They are currently scheduled on November 7th for Vision Day at the school, and should test almost 700 students for sight and hearing. They are also working on a project with other agencies to try and build a wheelchair ramp for a lady who  desperately needs one for her home.
I wanted to thank this club for giving me the opportunity to meet with you,  a wonderful bbq & potluck dinner, and great fellowship.

I visited the Terrace Heights Club on October 3rd with my wife Tammy.  We were greeted warmly by the members that were there and made to feel welcome. This is another small club of just 11 members, but being small doesn't mean they're not awesome. This club gives service to their community by hanging flags on the light poles for the holidays. They do Christmas tree sales as a fundraiser. And I'm very proud of their 2nd grade flag project where they provide American flags and information about our flag to each second grader in the school.

This club is always looking for new members,  but are happy with volunteers.
I'm sorry I wasn't able to get photos (yet) of this club and their projects, but I will.
Keep up the good work Lions!

Today I visited the Harrington Lions Club. I arrived a couple of hours early, so I could explore the town and meet some of the community members.

Harrington is another small farming community and the population is around 500. I enjoyed seeing the older buildings and what they were being used for... I even saw a working telephone booth,  ask your kids if they know what it is.
The Lions of Harrington have a membership of 33, and from what I can tell they are all pretty involved.
This club does a lot of visitations to other Lions Clubs, is involved in many  community activities, and I enjoyed getting to know them.
Thanks for a great dinner, and making me feel welcome.

My last visit for the month of September was with the Whitepine Lions Club of Deary Idaho. This club was established in 1974 and currently has 13 members. There were three charter members in attendance last night and for you that are counting,  that's over 40 years of service to their communities.

We met at their community center and I found out they had donated the land to the city so they could build this beautiful building. Deary is a beautiful small town, the people are friendly, and you can tell they are proud of where they live.

This lions club like many others are involved in many projects, and just finished Deary Days. They also provide school scholarships, help out with a sponsored bike ride, have a Turkey raffle, and last night donated $100 to Leader Dogs.
Just wanted to say thanks for making myself, wife, and Melissa Smith(zone chair for 7) feel welcome.
 Keep up the good work!

We arrived in Nezperce and had a little time to drive and walk around the town to see the sights. There is no doubt this is a farming community. As we drove into town we saw giant tractors, combines and equipment for sale at the dealerships. Large grain towers and cute country churches sit proudly and are a reminder of why people came to this country. There was a arena on one side of town,  and a beautiful park on the other. I ask how large the farms were here, and were told somewhere between 7,000 and 15,000 acres.

Tonight starts the Lewis County Fair, and one of the highlights will be this club's Lion Burger Booth, and the demolition derby/race's that involves pickups hauling travel trailers. If you look on line you will find some great videos. This group of Lions, does most if not all of the setup, and were still working on the final preparation as we left last night. It's calling for rain and possibly snow for the weekend, but they didn't want to let the community down, and just like so many other Lions, they they will work until the job gets done. Here's a shout out to the Nezperce Lions!

I had the pleasure of meeting with the Asotin Lions last night with my wife Tammy and Zone Chair Melissa Smith. This club was chartered in 1934 and currently has 34 members.

I always enjoy visiting with other clubs and picking up project ideas I can share with others. One l learned of last night was a diaper drive for a foster child organization in town.  The club had talked with a lady who said they were always in need of diapers, baby wipes, etc. The club put out word to the community that for everyone who brought in a box of diapers to their club house on a certain evening, they would provide free hot dogs and drinks. I heard they had a couple of tables stacked three feet deep with new diapers and supplies! It worked out so well it became a annual event.

This club also does a monthly breakfast to raise funds from the community.

One of the interesting things we learned about last night was the installation of new lighting on the water tower on the hill. It can be remotely operated,  and has a new star and cross, and the letter A for Asotin.

This Lions club also provides scholarships to students, does a special needs Easter Egg Hunt and are will to step up when needed.

We learned last night that the clubhouse is in dire need of some roof work. They have been getting bids,  but it going to be in the high $20,000 range. The community has been donating funds to help, but this is going to be a financial hardship for the Asotin club. I'm sending word to the other Lions in the District if you can possibly help your fellow Lions, please do so. You can contact the club secretary,  Wes Vaughn at 509-254-1881.
