I had the pleasure of meeting with the Asotin Lions last night with my wife Tammy and Zone Chair Melissa Smith. This club was chartered in 1934 and currently has 34 members.

I always enjoy visiting with other clubs and picking up project ideas I can share with others. One l learned of last night was a diaper drive for a foster child organization in town.  The club had talked with a lady who said they were always in need of diapers, baby wipes, etc. The club put out word to the community that for everyone who brought in a box of diapers to their club house on a certain evening, they would provide free hot dogs and drinks. I heard they had a couple of tables stacked three feet deep with new diapers and supplies! It worked out so well it became a annual event.

This club also does a monthly breakfast to raise funds from the community.

One of the interesting things we learned about last night was the installation of new lighting on the water tower on the hill. It can be remotely operated,  and has a new star and cross, and the letter A for Asotin.

This Lions club also provides scholarships to students, does a special needs Easter Egg Hunt and are will to step up when needed.

We learned last night that the clubhouse is in dire need of some roof work. They have been getting bids,  but it going to be in the high $20,000 range. The community has been donating funds to help, but this is going to be a financial hardship for the Asotin club. I'm sending word to the other Lions in the District if you can possibly help your fellow Lions, please do so. You can contact the club secretary,  Wes Vaughn at 509-254-1881.
